The prostate, which is made up of several agglomerated glands, is located around the upper part of the urethra, just beneath the bladder. The rear part of the prostate is adjacent to the rectum and you can feel the prostate through the front wall of the rectum.
A healthy prostate gland is about the size of a walnut or chestnut. It is not sensitive and its consistency is firm, somewhat similar to an eraser.
The prostate produces a secretion which is part of the semen. Prostate fluid makes up roughly 20-30 % of the ejaculate. The prostate also has a number of muscles that help to expel semen during ejaculation.
G or P-spot
The prostate is sometimes called the man's G-spot or P-spot, an erogenous zone that can give pleasurable feelings and orgasm when stimulated. Many men find it pleasurable to massage the prostate when having sex.
The prostate can be stimulated via the anus, for example using fingers. It is located a few centimetres up towards the scrotum. When you get sexually aroused, the prostate swells so that it is easier to feel it. If you press lightly on the prostate, you may feel that it tenses up, or it may feel as if something is being pressed out of the penis.
When the prostate is stimulated, the production of pre-ejaculate starts. By doing Kegel exercises, you can massage the prostate and stimulating the prostate can amplify orgasms. Some people talk of a special sort of orgasm, a prostate orgasm.
